Nursing Philosophy
The Kaginhawaan Principle provides a culturally grounded foundation for the Philippine Society of Palliative and Hospice Care Nurses, Inc. (PSPHCN, Inc.), recognizing that Filipino experiences of comfort extend beyond the absence of pain or disease. Kaginhawaan reflects a state of holistic and relational well-being—physical ease, emotional peace, spiritual calm, family connectedness, practical and financial security, dignity, and harmony with others.
Applying NurCaM Theory makes palliative care culturally congruent, legally aligned with the Philippine Nursing Act of 2002 (RA 9173), and ethically grounded; the practice centers on one question: "What disturbs their kaginhawaan, and how do we restore it?"
Kaginhawaan is the true purpose (telos) of Filipino nursing: preserving wholeness, dignity, and relational peace when cure is no longer possible.
